Vanjo Merano, better known as Panlasang Pinoy, began his culinary journey in his mother’s kitchen. Decades later, he may be miles away from his origins but his heart remains at home- that much is certain from the way he cooks and talks about Filipino food.

Humble beginnings of a superstar homecook

Merano’s love affair with Filipino food started with him running errands for his mom. As his mother cooked in the kitchen, he would go to the nearest sari-sari store or talipapa (wet market) to buy the ingredients. Watching his mom cook sparked his interest in the culinary arts, turning it into his own goal of being able to cook his favorite food by himself.

“At a young age, I have always been curious about how the food that I am eating is prepared- whether it is home cooked or in a restaurant setting,” shared Merano.

Aptly naming his online presence Panlasang Pinoy, Merano creates food for the Filipino palette. His videos have become a trusted “go-to” source online for many households whenever it comes to searching for Filipino recipes. He inspires many budding chefs- from newbie cooks to culinary experts- to explore different ways to make Filipino dishes. Not only has he taught many of his viewers on how to cook Filipino cuisine, he has also succeeded in introducing it to the world.

“Filipino Cuisine represents the origin of Filipinos. It has been influenced by all the nations that have been part of our history along with endemic ingredients. Think of it as the best of every world combined together to create a masterpiece,” said Merano, describing the uniqueness of Filipino cuisine.

Through the years, Merano has touched many hearts through his videos. Now, he’s revving up to do it again, this time partnering with the CDO brand which is another household name in the Philippines. This also serves as his 1st collaboration with a brand in the processed meat category.
